We represented a U.S.-based architectural firm to negotiate an AIA Document B161–2022, Standard Form of Agreement Between Client and Consultant for design consulting services where the Project is located outside the United States, for the renovation of a school in South America. We structured the agreement for collaboration with a local architect handling construction documents and code compliance. This involved consideration of timelines, communication, and responsibilities. A key challenge was working with the firm’s U.S.-based professional liability insurer to secure appropriate coverage for this international project, as their standard policy was limited to projects within the continental United States.
