We represented an architecture firm to negotiate an AIA Document B104–2017, Abbreviated Form of Agreement Between Owner and Architect, for a substantial residential project. This presented unique challenges as it involved our client taking over from a previous architect and contractor whose work had been terminated due to significant errors. Our priority to negotiate the agreement was to precisely define the scope of our client’s services, excluding any responsibility for pre-existing problems and securing comprehensive indemnification against claims related to the prior work.
