We recently secured a significant litigation victory for a global architecture firm, obtaining a $1.55 million judgment plus post-judgment against a major real estate developer. The dispute arose from a challenging scenario familiar to many architects: being asked to begin concept design work on a complex, high-profile project – in this case, a 63-story mixed-use skyscraper – only to face unexpected financial obstacles on the developer’s side. Despite extensive pre-development work, including concept design and schematic design, the project stalled due to difficulties the developer faced during the heart of the COVID-19 pandemic. This left our client, who had diligently and creatively performed its design obligations, with a substantial unpaid fee. True to our philosophy, we spent years pursuing amicable resolution through negotiation. However, when this failed, we aggressively pursued litigation, ultimately securing this substantial judgment.
