Firm Guides Design-Builder Through $30M Hospital Project

We helped a long-term design-build client undertake a challenging renovation of a hospital facility. This involved addressing pre-existing structural issues in a shuttered hospital, mitigating unforeseen damage from an electrical storm, and meeting evolving design requirements from many governmental regulators within the parameters set by the project owner.

Key to our contribution was developing a comprehensive contracting strategy. While we directly negotiated the more complex agreements with attorneys for the project owner, the design professionals, and multiple prime contractors, we provided the tools and guidance necessary for our client to navigate the intricate web of contractual relationships on this project. We developed a strategy to subcontract with dozens and dozens of trade contractors, vendors, and consultants. This involved crafting template contracts that empowered our client to efficiently manage most of the downstream contracting independently with minimal legal oversight.

Our approach accounted for the inherent complexities of hospital renovations and the dynamic nature of the project’s programmatic needs and design criteria, underscoring our ability to provide strategic legal support and effective contract management solutions for demanding projects.
