Interior Design Amendment to Architect’s Contract

We represented an architecture firm in preparing an amendment to AIA Document B104–2017, Abbreviated Form of Agreement Between Owner and Architect, expanding the firm’s services to include interior design and furniture, furnishings, and equipment (FF&E) procurement for a luxury residential project. The amendment supplemented the original agreement, clarifying the scope of interior design services, the process for FF&E selection and procurement, and the architect’s compensation for these additional services. It addressed key issues such as client approvals, vendor relationships, payment obligations, trade discounts, and limitations of liability. The amendment also established an agency relationship between the owner and architect for FF&E procurement, with the architect acting as the owner’s agent in purchasing FF&E directly from vendors.
